The Keys to a White Smile

Monday, February 15, 2010 By: Caring4Me

A big part of any first impression is a person’s smile. If a person has a nice, open smile, he is perceived as friendly, open and trustworthy. If he has dark, stained and discolored teeth, he is perceived as unkempt and irresponsible. Discolored teeth are also turnoffs for many people when they are seeking a mate. If you want to have bright white teeth, there are some foods and habits you can avoid to maintain a nice smile. First of all, the habitual consumption of red wine, coffee, tea, soda, carrots, oranges and other deeply colored foods and beverages can cause staining over the years. And nicotine from tobacco use leaves brownish deposits that slowly soak into the tooth structure and cause discoloration of the interior of teeth.

While there are some things you can avoid to prevent teeth discoloration, other factors are unavoidable. These include age and genetics. Over the years, teeth darken as a result of wear and tear and stain accumulation. As you get older, teeth whitening requires more effort for it to be effective, but teeth whitening gel can be effective when used properly. If you apply teeth whitening gel to a custom tray and wear it for the prescribed amount of time on a regular basis, you can see noticeable whitening results. Once your teeth are whiter, however, you’ll want to perform maintenance whitening every once in a while, avoid dark colored food and beverages for at least a week, and use a teeth whitening toothpaste.

Let’s face it, before the late 1990s, the only way to whiten teeth was through professional whitening done by dentists. Dentist whitening is expensive and also inconvenient, but in the last decades, teeth whitening products have become available to all people. People all over the world have discovered the secret of how to whiten teeth at an inexpensive cost: whitening gel. Whether used in trays, strips, or applied to the teeth, this gel works wonders for removing old stains and unattractive blemishes. In addition, teeth whitening with whitening gel can be done without professional supervision, so it’s on the individual’s schedule rather than the dentist’s schedule.  Whitening gel has also yielded some amazing results for people all over the world; all that is necessary is a little time and regular applications of whitening gel.

You can find whitening gel even at most grocery stores these days, but for the professional grade stuff that really works, search around online. Even if you’ve been drinking coffee for a decade, the whitening gel can remove several shades of yellow in just a few applications.

Fairly or not, society places many demands on women that aren’t necessarily expected of their male counterparts. Ladies are expected to dress fashionably and live up to certain standards of physical beauty. Many of these expectations are set by advertisements and popular media such as television and movies. The expectation for good dental hygiene applies to men and women equally, however.

In many cases, having clean, cavity-free teeth just isn’t enough to set oneself apart. Coffee drinkers and smokers are likely to suffer from stained teeth, and part of the enamel’s natural color is predetermined by genetics. Even if we aren’t all gifted with a set of flawless pearly whites, they are easy enough to obtain with teeth whitening gel. Simply use it as you would any other toothpaste and observe how people look at you in a whole new light.
