The mouth is one of the last places most people want to be dealing with an open sore. Canker sores can be a painful nuisance, and they can appear on just about any fleshy surface inside the mouth – inside the cheeks and lips, under the tongue and even on the gums. These annoying lesions can be the result of any number of potential causes – from food allergies to immune system dysfunction to emotional stress.

Unlike cold sores, which form on the edge of the mouth, canker sores are not contagious. It’s still nice to be rid of them as soon as possible, however, and that mean applying some canker sore medication to the site of the irritation. Most sores vanish within a week of their first appearance, but topical pastes and oral medications can speed the process along significantly. They are especially useful if you have a big date coming up.

The Road to Physical Fitness

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 By: Caring4Me

weight_lossEveryone knows that it’s easier to gain weight than to lose it. In my case, it only took a few months of inactivity and poor dietary choices to go from a svelte, lean physique to a flabby frame. In my quest to balance work and school, I had momentarily forgotten to look out for my own health. I knew the road back to physical fitness would be an arduous one, but the amount of effort and sacrifice it took surprised even me.

My first step in the right direction was to set aside an hour each day for physical exercise. I would vary the activity depending on the day of the week just so that one exercise didn’t grow stale. Mondays and Wednesdays I hit the gym, Tuesdays and Thursdays I ran around the high school track and so on. I also cut out all fast food from my diet and began cooking my own dinners from scratch. Then, to help the process along, I started taking some herbal weight loss supplements. Behind the strength of that troika, I’ve begun to notice a serious difference.

Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of severe vision loss in people over age 60. It occurs when the small central portion of the retina, known as the macula, deteriorates. The retina is the light-sensing nerve tissue at the back of the eye.

Although there is no cure for age related macular degeneration, there are age related macular degeneration  treatments that may prevent vision loss or slow the progression considerable.  One very popular option is the use of vitamins used in in the AREDS studies.  This study shoes the for most individuals, vitamins C, E, beta-carotene, zinc, and copper helps decrease the risk of the loss of vision in people with intermediate to advanced dry age-related macular degeneration

Now that this is becoming a more known disease due to the AREDS studies 1 and 2, many over the counter AREDS macular degeneration vitamins based on the study are now readily available.

Due to some individuals developing wet macular degeneration after being diagnosed with dry form, they should monitor their vision daily and consult with their doctor if there are any changes in their vision.
